Hasbro is working on a reboot of the Power Rangers series for Disney+, with the show being developed by the team behind the Percy Jackson series.
It appears that the Power Rangers might be joining the Disney+ lineup, as The Wrap has reported that Hasbro has appointed Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz to develop a live-action reboot of the Power Rangers series for the streaming service.
The trade publication states that the potential series “will reinvent the franchise for a new generation of fans while also satisfying those who already cherish the Power Rangers universe.”
This new endeavor represents Hasbro’s second effort to reboot the series after acquiring the rights from Saban in 2018. Previously, the toy company enlisted Jonathan Entwistle, creator of The End of the F***ing World, to work on both a film and a television adaptation, which ultimately did not materialize.
The Power Rangers franchise began in 1993 with its original version, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and has since produced 30 seasons across 22 different versions. It also led to two feature films – the 1995 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie – as well as the high-budget 2017 reboot Power Rangers from Lionsgate, which underperformed at the box office.
