Super Troopers 3 is officially in development, with Jay Chandrasekhar set to direct and reprise his role as Thorny. He will be joined once more by his long-time collaborators Kevin Heffernan (Farva), Steve Lemme (Mac), Paul Soter (Foster), and Erik Stolhanske (Rabbit). Also returning are Brian Cox as Captain John O’Hagan and Marisa Coughlan as Ursula Hanson.

The Super Troopers franchise is a cult comedy series created by the Broken Lizard group, focused on a team of prankster Vermont state troopers. The original film, which debuted in 2001, was produced on a budget of only $1.2 million and became a sleeper hit, earning over $23 million despite receiving mixed reviews. Its absurd humor and memorable quotes contributed to its strong cult following.

Seventeen years later, Super Troopers 2 (2018) was released following a successful crowdfunding initiative that raised $4.6 million. This sequel, set in a contested Canadian border town, grossed $31.6 million against a budget of $13.5 million. Although the films have never been critical favorites, they continue to thrive thanks to their dedicated fan base and a style of stoner-friendly, slapstick comedy.

"Broken Lizard has been part of the Searchlight family for more than twenty years, and we couldn’t be more excited for another chapter in the Super Troopers story," stated Searchlight President Matthew Greenfield. "Super Troopers has a unique ability to make the absurd feel inevitable, and we look forward to taking audiences on another adventure with these characters who spread joy and laughter wherever their patrols lead them."

“Broken Lizard is thrilled to help revive theatrical comedy,” added Chandrasekhar. “To America, we say, ‘It’s mustache-growing time!’”

New cast members include Nat Faxon as Captain Todd Markowski, Chace Crawford as Baker Buchanan, and Andrew Dismukes as Coy Burns, with production now underway.
