A V for Vendetta television series is being developed by HBO and DC Studios.
HBO and DC Studios are collaborating once again for a live-action comic book adaptation, as James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to executive produce a television version of the renowned comic series V for Vendetta, created by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Pete Jackson, known for The Death of Bunny Munro, will serve as the writer and executive producer.
V for Vendetta first appeared in the British comic anthology Warrior in 1982 before transitioning to DC Comics in 1988. The story is set in a dystopian Britain controlled by the fascist Norsefire party and centers around a young woman named Evey Hammond, who becomes involved in a rebellion against the police state, led by V, an anarchist recognized by his iconic Guy Fawkes mask.
The narrative was adapted into a film in 2005, directed by James McTeigue and written by the Wachowskis, featuring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving in the roles of Evey and V, respectively. Additionally, the third season of Epix’s DC series Pennyworth acted as a prequel to the events of the graphic novel, although it was cancelled before the story could be completed.
This will be HBO and DC's second project related to Alan Moore, following the 2019 series Watchmen, which served as a prequel to his comic. They are also coming off the success of the Emmy-winning The Penguin and have plans for the DC Universe-set Lanterns, which is expected to debut in 2026.
