Ryan Coogler's reboot of The X-Files features Himesh Patel as the male lead.
A few weeks after Danielle Deadwyler was cast in the leading female role of Ryan Coogler's reboot of The X-Files, Himesh Patel (from Yesterday) has been announced as the lead male role in the upcoming series.
Similar to the original series, the reboot will feature two highly decorated but distinctly different FBI agents who form an unexpected partnership when they are assigned to a long-closed division focused on cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Deadwyler and Patel will take over the roles of the lead FBI agents from David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who are well-known for portraying agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigated unusual and supernatural occurrences while uncovering a large global conspiracy related to extraterrestrial life. The original series aired from 1993 to 2002, with a feature film released during its run, followed by a second film in 2008 and two event seasons in 2016 and 2018.
Hulu has given a pilot order for The X-Files reboot, which Coogler will write and direct. Jennifer Yale (The Copenhagen Test) will act as showrunner and executive producer alongside Coogler and X-Files creator Chris Carter.
Patel will next appear in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Greek epic The Odyssey, reuniting with the director after his role in Tenet, as well as in Netflix’s Enola Holmes 3, where he will reprise his cameo as Dr. John Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ loyal partner and friend from the second film.
