Zach Cregger Makes His Comeback in the Initial Trailer for Resident Evil
After the success of Barbarian and last year's Oscar-winning Weapons, Zach Cregger is returning sooner than anticipated, this time venturing into franchise territory. His upcoming film remains within the horror genre, offering a fresh perspective on Resident Evil. Initially introduced by Paul W. S. Anderson, the franchise was rebooted by Johannes Roberts five years ago, and now Cregger is adding his unique touch. With a release date set for September 18, 2026, the first trailer for the movie, featuring Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser, has now been unveiled.
Here’s the synopsis: “From the inventive mind of filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling and frightening refresh of the Resident Evil franchise. In this brand-new narrative, Resident Evil centers on Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unexpectedly becomes embroiled in an intense, relentless fight for survival as he navigates a chaotic and horrifying night.”
