Scarlett Johansson tapped for Ari Aster's upcoming film, Scapegoat.
Scarlett Johansson has further expanded her already packed 2026 filming agenda by agreeing to star in Ari Aster’s upcoming project, Scapegoat.
In addition to her leading role in Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist film for Universal and the impending production of Matt Reeves’ much-anticipated sequel to The Batman, Deadline reports that the two-time Oscar nominee will feature in Aster’s new film.
Scapegoat, which is both written and directed by Aster, known for Hereditary and Eddington, will mark his fifth feature film and will again be distributed by A24. Aster will produce the film alongside his partner Lars Knudsen under their banner, Square Peg. As with many of his projects, specific plot details remain limited.
Around this time last year, Aster’s Eddington premiered at Cannes to mixed reviews, and it did not attract large audiences upon its later release, with the Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal pandemic drama earning only $13 million at the global box office.
In contrast, Johansson is coming off her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great (check out our review here) and has also starred in Universal’s summer blockbuster Jurassic World: Rebirth, which grossed $850 million.
