Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino come together again on the set of Romy & Michele 2.

Production has officially commenced on Romy & Michele 2, the follow-up to the 1997 cult classic Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion, featuring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino reprising their beloved characters.

The original Romy & Michele centered on Sorvino and Kudrow’s characters, Romy White and Michele Weinberger, who are two close friends that haven’t accomplished much in their lives. As they prepare for their class's 10th reunion, they fabricate stories to impress their former classmates.

While specific plot details for the sequel remain undisclosed, Kudrow and Sorvino recently shared a teaser image on Instagram showcasing an updated glimpse of Romy and Michele's unique fashion, accompanied by the caption, "The reunion you’ve been waiting for!" Additionally, Romy & Michele 2 will see the return of Alan Cumming and Julia Campbell from the original film, with Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham also joining the cast.

The original costume designer, Mona May, is set to return for the sequel to create new outfits for Romy and Michele in their later years. "I’m thrilled to be part of this wonderful project to maintain the essence of the characters and design fashions that are as fun and fabulous as the original film," she expressed. "Romy and Michele will always be fashionistas, and I'm eager to collaborate with Lisa and Mira once more."

Romy & Michele 2 will be directed by David Mirkin, with a script penned by Robin Schiff, both of whom are also coming back from the original. The film is slated for release as a Hulu original in 2027.
