The video game adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin has been officially confirmed.
In recent years, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has rejuvenated its presence in popular culture with its latest animated film, Mutant Mayhem, along with a continuing TV series and an upcoming sequel, plus news of a new live-action movie. However, one storyline that gained significant traction before the film was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, created by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz.
In 2023, it was announced that The Last Ronin would receive a video game adaptation, but the project faced delays. Recently, during the Summer Game Fest, Paramount revealed that the game is back in the works, with development by Paramount Games Studio and Platinum Games for current consoles and PC, accompanied by an announcement trailer for the eagerly awaited game.
Set in a dystopian future, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin features the Foot Clan, led by Shredder’s grandson, who has gained control over New York City. The Ronin is the last surviving Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, having lost his three brothers and father, Splinter, decades earlier when the Foot Clan took over the city. Motivated by sorrow and a desire for revenge, he sets out on a final mission to avenge his family and eradicate the Foot Clan permanently.
Since its release, The Last Ronin has become extremely popular among fans, leading to the creation of its own 'Roninverse,' which encompasses a prequel series, a sequel, and the forthcoming one-shot comic, The Last Ronin: Training Day, set during the original narrative. Although an R-rated live-action film was in the works, it has been canceled in favor of a new, more family-oriented live-action film that Paramount wishes to develop. Nevertheless, Eastman recently expressed optimism about a potential Last Ronin film, believing it will eventually come to fruition.
Currently, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin does not have a set release date, but it is in development for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
