The terror of The Backrooms 1998 will be arriving on consoles later this year.
Steelkrill Studio and Feardemic have revealed that they will be launching their survival horror game, The Backrooms 1998, on consoles later this year. Inspired by the creepypasta urban legend, The Backrooms 1998 immerses players in chilling empty corridors and rooms. A new trailer is available below, providing a glimpse into the sinister and unnatural setting players will explore.
Presented in a first-person found footage style, The Backrooms 1998 follows a young teenager who finds themselves deep within the Backrooms in 1998. Players must discover a means of escape, but they should be cautious, as they are not alone in these seemingly infinite empty spaces.
Players will have the freedom to navigate the maze, searching for tools, supplies, and equipment to aid in their escape, including a spray gun to mark their path, medications, a flashlight (or torch for some), and the ever-handy crowbar.
The forthcoming console version will include:
- Microphone input that allows enemies to detect sounds made by the player.
- Survival mechanics like a comprehensive inventory system, clue discovery, and tool usage.
- Insights into the backstory of the Backrooms.
- Enhanced gameplay and improved visuals for a more refined experience.
- Hiding options from enemies in lockers, under tables, and various other hiding spots.
- Updated jump scares.
- A more engaging and disturbing environment.
- Achievements that can be unlocked by exploring the eerie labyrinth.
Be on the lookout for The Backrooms 1998 launching on Xbox, PS4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch later this year, with the full version 1.0 also set to be released on Steam.
