Video game developer Force Multiplier Studios is collaborating with filmmakers Dimitri Logothetis and Rob Hickman, known for Kickboxer: Vengeance, Kickboxer: Retaliation, and the soon-to-be-released Kickboxer: Armageddon, to create the first-ever video game based on the legendary Kickboxer movie series.
According to the official announcement, this partnership aims to translate the high-energy world of Kickboxer into a gaming experience, providing fans with an engaging martial arts brawler that is set to "merge the rich storyline of Kickboxer with dynamic martial arts action, resulting in an exhilarating brawler featuring iconic characters and settings from the franchise that originally starred martial arts legend Jean-Claude Van Damme."
“Kickboxer is not merely a film; it’s a cultural icon that has motivated countless fans and martial artists over the years,” stated Dimitri Logothetis, the writer and director of the latest Kickboxer films. “I’m excited to work alongside the talented team at Force Multiplier Studios. Together, we will craft a gaming experience that honors the original movie while incorporating thrilling new gameplay features.”
“With Force Multiplier Studios' expertise, we’re creating something that will respect the franchise’s heritage while also reshaping what fans can anticipate from a martial arts brawler,” producer Rob Hickman added.
“We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Dimitri and Rob to bring Kickboxer into the gaming realm,” remarked Jeremy Breslau, CEO of Force Multiplier Studios. “Our drive is innovation, and similar to how we are pushing the boundaries in Fortnite Creative with our unique environmental combat shooter experience, Karnivus: Rooftop Rumble, we are eager to revolutionize the fighting genre, focusing on visceral combat and environmental interaction. We are developing a dynamic brawler that will enable players to become the ultimate kickboxers worldwide, exploring exotic locations and introducing new environmental combat mechanics for an unprecedented martial arts adventure.”
The original Kickboxer was released in 1989, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Kurt Sloane, a man seeking revenge against a Muay Thai champion who severely injured his brother. The film led to four direct-to-video sequels produced between 1991 and 1995, with Logothetis revitalizing the series with Kickboxer: Vengeance in 2016 and Kickboxer: Retaliation in 2018. The release date for Kickboxer: Armageddon has yet to be announced.
