Natalie Portman Set to Star in Lena Dunham’s Romantic Comedy Good Sex
Following her two back-to-back films, Sharp Stick and Catherine Called Birdy, Lena Dunham has jumped into the production of the 10-episode Netflix romantic comedy Too Much, which is expected to be released this year. In addition to securing a first-look deal with Netflix for future projects, she has now announced her next feature film.
According to Deadline, Natalie Portman will star in Dunham’s romantic comedy Good Sex. The plot summary is as follows: “After a decade of a failed relationship, successful couples’ therapist Ally (Portman) is about to turn 40 and is reluctantly pushed back into the disheartening New York dating scene by her best friend. However, Ally finds herself torn in different directions as she enters a passionate affair with a 20-something Brooklyn hipster while also beginning a more traditional relationship with Alan, a successful man in his 50s living in Manhattan. As this romantic crossroads leads to a full-blown identity crisis, Ally struggles to keep these two very different men apart and to understand her own conflicting desires before she risks losing them both.”
In 2011, Portman praised Lena Dunham’s debut film, stating to Vogue, “Did you see Tiny Furniture? Lena Dunham wrote, directed, and starred in it; she’s 23, and it's simply amazing. She spends the entire movie in her underwear; it's bold. She is the subject, not the object, and that's beautiful—that's the kind of content we need more of.”
Portman’s upcoming projects include Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist and Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth.
