Secret Mall Apartment Trailer: Jesse Eisenberg Unveils an Odd, Real Story of Living Spaces
One of our favorite films that premiered at SXSW last year is set to release next month. Secret Mall Apartment recounts the unusual true story of a group of friends who established a hidden apartment within the bustling Providence Place Mall during the early 2000s, reuniting the participants for the first time in nearly twenty years. Directed by Jeremy Workman (Lily Topples The World, The World Before Your Feet) and executive produced by Jesse Eisenberg, the film is scheduled to open on March 21 at the Providence Place Mall, followed by a New York City release on March 28 at the IFC Center, and on April 2 at the Drafthouse LA. In anticipation of the release, the first trailer has been unveiled.
John Fink commented in his review, “Highlighting a quirky 2007 story that garnered national attention, Secret Mall Apartment takes us deep into the heart of the Providence Place Mall, a central part of the revitalization of Rhode Island's capital city led by the controversial mayor Buddy Cianci. (Interestingly, just a few months before the hidden apartment was discovered, I had been right above it watching Cherry Arnold’s Buddy, a revealing film about the mayor and his impact on Providence, at the mall's Showcase Cinemas, but that's a different story.) Residents of the apartment enjoyed the perk of private access to the theater whenever they desired.”
