Ayo Edebiri will write and perform in Daniel Kaluuya's A24 Barney film.

      Ayo Edebiri, known for her roles in The Bear and Opus, is in discussions to write and potentially star in A24’s long-awaited Barney the Dinosaur film for Mattel.

      It’s been over five years since the announcement of a Barney movie produced by Daniel Kaluuya surfaced, during which Barbie has earned billions and several other adaptations of board games for the big screen have been revealed.

      According to Deadline, the project is starting to gain momentum, with the Emmy and Golden Globe winner set to write the screenplay and likely appear in the film. Kaluuya, who won an Academy Award, will continue to produce under his 59% Productions label.

      Barney, which first aired on PBS in 1992, became a key component of children's educational growth, utilizing his pronounced optimism and simple songs to influence a generation before the show concluded in 2010. Reports suggest that the A24 project will take a bolder approach, featuring a grittier tone and focusing on the generation that grew up with Barney, exploring how their lives have evolved thirty years later.

      While we wait for Barney to hit theaters, Mattel remains busy with projects like the live-action Masters of the Universe movie, a Matchbox film featuring John Cena, and a Hot Wheels movie produced by J.J. Abrams.
