The development process for the forthcoming Crazy Rich Asians TV series is now underway, with Adele Lim at the helm. Lim will take on the roles of executive producer, writer, and showrunner for the Max television series. She co-wrote the screenplay for the Crazy Rich Asians film alongside Peter Chiarelli.

Original director Jon M. Chu (Wicked) will serve as an executive producer through his Electric Somewhere production company. Author Kevin Kwan will also be an executive producer for the series. Max has confirmed that the drama will include aspects from Kwan's novels, such as China Rich Girlfriend, Rich People Problems, and Lies and Weddings.

Crazy Rich Asians is a romantic comedy centered on Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an Asian-American professor who goes to Singapore with her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), for a wedding. She soon learns that Nick is extraordinarily wealthy and hails from one of Asia's richest families. The film delves into themes of class, family expectations, and identity, as Rachel navigates the extravagant world of the ultra-rich while contending with the disapproval of Nick’s mother and the lavish lifestyle that accompanies it.

Constance Wu and Henry Golding were part of a talented ensemble cast alongside Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Nico Santos, Ronny Chieng, Jimmy O. Yang, Ken Jeong, Awkwafina, and Lisa Lu. This film was significant for being the first Hollywood production in 25 years to showcase an all-Asian cast.
