Big Finish releases new audio adventures featuring River Song, Tegan, and Ace from Doctor Who.
Big Finish Productions has launched a new box set of full cast audio dramas set in the Doctor Who universe, continuing the escapades of Professor River Song. In these fresh stories, River Song is joined by two of the Doctor’s earlier companions, Ace and Tegan, as they delve into hauntings, extraterrestrial encounters, and eccentric scientists.
The Death and Life of River Song: Ace and Tegan features Alex Kingston portraying the assassin-turned-archaeologist River Song, Sophie Aldred as Ace, and Janet Fielding as Tegan. The trio will face several adventures...
In "Castaways" by James Moran, Ace and Tegan investigate alleged hauntings in the new underground railway system of Victorian London. However, they have lost their memories of how they arrived and why, and they are about to meet River Song, who may or may not reveal the full story.
"Driftwood," penned by Roland Moore, takes listeners back to Ace’s time aboard the TARDIS. In this new narrative, Ace finds herself on a damaged ship, isolated from the Doctor and with only 60 minutes left to live. An unknown entity has infiltrated the vessel through the wiring, capable of controlling the metallic structure. As time runs out, the arrival of a mysterious woman may be Ace’s only chance.
In "Dead Rising," also by Roland Moore, the Doctor and Turlough are stuck in a state of limbo while Tegan endures interrogation by the Vrexel colony's Pilot, who suspects her involvement in the colonists' demise. However, when River Song appears, and the deceased begin to rise, Tegan's situation worsens significantly.
Lastly, in "The End is the Beginning is the End" by James Moran, River, Ace, and Tegan are tasked with preventing Gregor Ganley from repeatedly altering their past. This mad scientist is perpetually a step ahead, and Ace and Tegan face the challenge of convincing River that assassination isn’t always the ideal solution.

Alex Kingston remarked, “Having never met Janet and Sophie before, it's been incredibly enjoyable to connect with companions from the past. This is the beauty of working on audio stories, as these characters can continue to live and have adventures with their Doctors or with River – there are fantastic combinations to explore. When else would I have the chance to meet these two wonderful women?”
The Death and Life of River Song: Ace and Tegan is currently available for purchase on the Big Finish website for £22.99 as a download, or £29.99 for a download and limited edition collector’s CD box set. Bundles are also offered with The Death and Life of River Song: Last Words, released in August, alongside a third volume set to debut later this year.
