Disney-Pixar has officially revealed the sequel, Coco 2.

Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, has revealed that work is progressing on Coco 2, a sequel to Disney-Pixar’s acclaimed 2017 film that earned an Academy Award. The original creative team is reuniting, including director Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3), co-director Adrian Molina, and producer Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4).

“Although the film is currently in its early phases, we expect it to be filled with humor, emotion, and adventure,” Iger stated during Disney’s annual investor meeting. “We’re excited to share more details soon.”

The first Coco centered around Miguel, a 12-year-old boy with dreams of becoming a musician, who journeys into the Land of the Dead to uncover the truth behind his family’s history and their longstanding prohibition of music. The film won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, as well as Best Original Song for ‘Remember Me.’

Additionally, plot information for Coco 2 is currently undisclosed. It will be joining two other sequels slated for Pixar's upcoming schedule, with Toy Story 5 set to debut in June 2026 and Incredibles 3 also in progress.
