Andrey Zvyagintsev to Direct Next Feature Film Titled Minotaur.
Having been eight years since his last feature, Loveless, we have been eagerly anticipating the return of Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev. After recovering from a severe illness caused by COVID-19, it was announced a few years ago that he would come back with Jupiter, which was supposed to explore the story of a Russian oligarch confronting the stark reality of his family’s future. However, that project has now been shelved as a new feature has been revealed today.
Zvyagintsev's next project will be Minotaur, as reported by Arte France Cinéma (via IONCINEMA). Co-written by the director and Simon Liashenko, the film will center on Gleb, “a Russian company director preparing to terminate his employees” who “discovers that his wife is unfaithful.”
Production is set to commence this September in Riga, Latvia, and the film is characterized as an “intimate drama, filmed in exile, [that] is rooted in the contemporary Russian context and presents itself as a political fable that blends elements of a crime thriller and classic tragedy.”
Supported by MK Productions (France), CG Cinéma (France), Forma Pro Films (Latvia), and Razor Film Produktion (Germany), casting is currently in progress, with a festival premiere anticipated in 2026.
