Actor Christopher Prinsloo discusses I Feel Pretty - Exclusive Interview

In an exclusive interview, Flickering Myth spoke with British actor Christopher Prinsloo about his journey in acting and his part in the horror film, I Feel Pretty.

Hi Christopher, welcome to Flickering Myth! What inspired you to pursue acting, and when did you realize it was the right path for you?

That’s a tough question. Growing up, I was always encouraged to succeed, which instilled in me a strong desire to achieve. However, I wasn't clear on what success meant to me, so I aimed for a life that would earn the most money, mistakenly thinking it would lead to happiness. I enrolled in university in the UK, switching my major from Chemistry to Neuropsychology while searching for meaning. During that period, my life spiraled, prompting me to seek help and work on improving myself. This became a pivotal moment, offering me a fresh perspective. I recognized that to live a fulfilling life, I had to pursue my passions. I learned that success isn't about external factors like the car I drive or the size of my house, but rather about internal fulfillment—purpose and happiness. Although acting has always been a passion, this change in mentality made me realize that life is too short to chase a paycheck in the hope of finding happiness. I stopped obsessively applying for investment banking jobs and moved to LA. I can genuinely say I have no regrets. My aim is to be the best actor I can be, and of course, it would be nice to attain some external rewards too! But even if that doesn't happen, being able to pursue what I love and get paid for it is already a dream realized.

Who were your influences growing up that shaped you into who you are today?

A bit cliché, but my parents significantly influenced my development. My father encouraged me to dream big and not settle for anything less than the life I wanted. My mother taught me about kindness and resilience, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and the belief that goodness will return to you if you put it out into the world. I feel shaped by everyone in my life—the friendships and relationships that built me up, as well as those that brought me down. Every experience, particularly the painful ones, has contributed to who I am today. I have faced rock bottom, questioning whether I should or even deserved to continue. I owe my resilience to those who uplifted me and showed me the way forward.

Congratulations on your leading role in the horror film ‘I Feel Pretty.’ Can you share details about the project and your character?

Thank you. I Feel Pretty is inspired by an old Japanese wives' tale about a woman who roams the streets asking men if they think she's pretty, with fatal consequences for those who say yes. I play Jakob, a young working-class man from London. Typically, he’s seen as the tough guy whom most people wouldn’t dare to confront, but few manage to stay "manly" when faced with the supernatural. Jakob has witnessed some odd occurrences at work, including a co-worker mysteriously disappearing just a week prior. He’s been feeling anxious, which heightens his terror when he encounters this supernatural creature, fully aware of the possible consequences. Jakob shares a close bond with his younger brother, Thomas, which is why he instinctively seeks refuge at Thomas' home.

What was your experience like working on the film?

Being part of this set was incredibly enjoyable. It was my first horror project, and I had a fantastic time! Everyone was working hard due to a tight schedule, but honestly, that urgency seemed to enhance the pressure and intensity of my performance. One particular scene pushed me more than I had ever experienced before. There’s a moment where I’m screaming, crying, and simulating self-harm, which required multiple takes to get right. It was the most physically demanding acting I’ve done, trying to cry on cue repeatedly while keeping the intensity consistent was challenging but also very rewarding. Additionally, my younger brother in the film, Thomas, is portrayed by Oscar Winter, a fellow acting school alum. We were pleasantly surprised to discover we were cast together while on set, which was a delightful coincidence. I also had the opportunity to work with Emmy award-winning actress Khrystyne Haje, which was an amazing experience. I’m incredibly grateful for everything she taught me about the industry and her journey; she's a remarkable actress and an even better person. The film was shot in a charming location resembling a 70s house in the UK, which added an authentic touch that I truly appreciated. The film has received multiple accolades, and we are thrilled about it!

How did you become involved in this film?

Christopher Pierantoni, our fantastic director, contacted me to audition for the role. The process from being cast to being on set was remarkably quick, and it was impressive to see Christopher managing everything so effectively within the tight timeframe.

Just for fun, if you could go back to the
