Lionsgate reveals the title treatment for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
During the studio’s CinemaCon presentation this week, Lionsgate officially revealed its feature film adaptation of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is the latest book in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games series.
In addition to the title reveal, Lionsgate provided a brief synopsis for the film, stating:
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will explore the world of Panem 24 years before the events depicted in The Hunger Games, beginning with the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also referred to as the Second Quarter Quell.
Suzanne Collins’ novel—the prequel sequel to her original Hunger Games trilogy following The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes—was released last month and achieved the best opening for the series, with over 1.5 million copies sold in its first week.
The film adaptation will once again feature franchise veteran Francis Lawrence in the director’s role, working from a script by screenwriter Billy Ray, who returns to the series for the first time since the original 2012 film (the only installment not directed by Lawrence). There has been no announcement regarding casting yet, but the film is scheduled to be released on November 20th, 2026.
About Gary Collinson: Gary Collinson is a film, TV, and digital content producer and writer.
