Happy Death Day 3 is finally making progress.
Following its debut, Happy Death Day quickly became a modern slasher favorite among many fans, and the sequel only intensified that demand. Now, we have an exciting update regarding a possible third movie as actress Jessica Rothe and director Christopher Landon have finally confirmed that production on Happy Death Day 3 is set to begin soon after years of speculation.
"The third movie is on track," Rothe announced at the American Cinematheque, with director Landon beside her affirming, "It is moving forward."
This film has been under discussion for quite some time, with Rothe sharing insights about it since 2020. "I would love for us to complete the trilogy," Rothe stated in an interview with Coming Soon. "I know that Chris has everything planned out in his brilliant mind, but I also understand that we only want to finish it if we can do it right. It’s really a matter of seeing if the opportunity arises."
Rothe also mentioned, "Interestingly, I have a feeling that whether it's now or in five, ten, or twenty years, if we take a page from Jamie Lee Curtis in ‘Halloween’ and Tree returns as a fierce 50-year-old, we'll definitely get the chance to continue the story. I adore Tree; I cherish that character immensely, and I feel incredibly grateful to have been involved in that."
The 2017 film Happy Death Day from Blumhouse captivated audiences, receiving generally favorable reviews and achieving $125 million in global box office sales on a $4.8 million budget. The sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, which came out in 2019, garnered mixed reviews from critics and grossed only $64 million worldwide.
