Tom Cruise Confronts His Fate in the Trailer for Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
After the announcement of consecutive sequels for Mission: Impossible back in 2019, the culmination of Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise’s ambitious endeavor will finally be revealed over six years later. Following delays due to the pandemic and strikes, as well as a title change, the eighth and seemingly final installment featuring Ethan Hunt has been officially titled Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, with a new trailer released today in anticipation of its May 23 premiere. (For those tracking the film's development, it was initially slated for release on August 5, 2022.)
The film sees the return of Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, and Shea Whigham, along with newcomers to the franchise such as Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, and others.
This film also represents a significant shift for Cruise, who will soon transition back to more dramatic roles, leading the next project by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, which is currently in production. However, he isn’t leaving the action genre entirely: Cruise is also working on sequels to Top Gun: Maverick and Days of Thunder, and has indicated that the Mission: Impossible series could persist beyond these upcoming films. But now, questions arise.
