The Criterion Collection's lineup for July features 4K releases from Stanley Kubrick, Fritz Lang, François Truffaut, and Kenneth Lonergan.
Criterion has revealed its lineup for July 2025, featuring two highly sought-after upgrades alongside a significant American filmmaker. Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon and François Truffaut’s Antoine Doinel series will both be released in new 4K editions—the former being a 2017 release, while the latter dates back to the early days of the second Iraq War. While Barry Lyndon is now widely regarded as one of Kubrick’s greatest works, contemporary film enthusiasts have a chance to break free from the indecision surrounding Truffaut by revisiting his unmatched exploration of character psychology across decades, all wrapped in genre narrative. At least until he becomes less trendy again.
In addition, Kenneth Lonergan’s You Can Count on Me will receive what is surely its most impressive home-video release to date, as will Fritz Lang’s The Big Heat, which promises to highlight your TV’s black levels with its pot of coffee scene. Furthermore, Mike Nichols’ Carnal Knowledge will give viewers the opportunity to repeatedly exclaim, “that’s me,” while enjoying a beautifully remastered 4K presentation.
