Dag Johan Haugerud’s Oslo Trilogy, which includes the Golden Bear-winning film Dreams, is scheduled for release this summer.
This summer features a notable number of sequels, but Dag Johan Haugerud and Strand Releasing are set to unveil an entire trilogy of films throughout the season. Following the Norwegian director’s Berlinale Golden Bear victory for Dreams, the final part of his Oslo Trilogy, all three films will start their theatrical runs at NYC’s Film Forum during the first three months of summer.
Love will premiere on May 16, followed by Sex on June 13 and Dreams on September 12 at Film Forum. Each film will then be released nationally in various cities across North America following their initial dates. Ahead of this rollout, the first trailer for Love has been released, accompanied by posters for the trilogy.
In Zhuo-Ning Su’s review of the first film, he stated, “It requires a certain confidence to simply name your film Love in such a vague manner. While Michael Haneke could pull it off with the classic Amour, Gaspar Noé’s attempt with the word was less favorable. Does Dag Johan Haugerud, the Norwegian filmmaker, convey something significant regarding this theme? In a light tone that rather calms than astonishes, he indeed does. His film explores the various forms and potentialities of love while showcasing the beautiful landscapes of Oslo. Though it may not be the most innovative filmmaking, it serves as a soothing cinematic experience celebrating the fundamental human desire for connection. Fans of Joachim Trier’s films and Linklater’s Before trilogy should pay attention.”
