Tom Hanks is set to return to World War II for the sequel to Greyhound.
A sequel to Tom Hanks’ WWII film Greyhound is in the works, focusing on D-Day and the Pacific theater, as reported by Variety. Production is set to commence early next year in Sydney, Australia.
Hanks will return as Captain Krause, continuing the story of Krause and the Greyhound crew from the Normandy beaches to the Pacific Ocean as they contribute to turning the tide of the war.
Released in 2020, Greyhound was inspired by true events and the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd, depicting Hanks as an inexperienced naval captain responsible for leading the Allied convoy across the Atlantic in German U-boat territory. The film performed impressively for Apple, which was just launching its streaming service at the time.
Stephen Graham (Adolescence) and other notable cast members from the original film may also reprise their roles. The screenplay for Greyhound 2 was penned by Hanks, with director Aaron Schneider and producer Gary Goetzman returning for the sequel.
In an exciting narrative inspired by real events, Tom Hanks stars as a novice captain who leads a convoy of Allied ships, transporting thousands of soldiers through the perilous "Black Pit" in the Atlantic toward the WW2 front lines. Without air support for five days, the captain and his convoy face enemy Nazi U-boats to offer the Allies a fighting chance in the war.
