H.P. Lovecraft's Herbert West: Reanimator is slated for a "modern reinterpretation."
Deadline has reported that a "modern reimagining" of H.P. Lovecraft’s Herbert West: Reanimator is currently being developed by the indie company Woodlake Entertainment, along with screenwriters Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe (The Haunting in Connecticut).
"We are thrilled for Woodlake and the fantastic team put together to transform this classic horror literature into a contemporary and terrifying feature film," stated Woodlake owner Roger Lewis, who will serve as executive producer alongside Andrew Trapani (Winchester).
Originally serialized in 1922, Herbert West: Reanimator narrates the tale of an exceptionally talented medical student who is shunned for believing he can defeat death. His experiments with a serum that revives the dead grow increasingly immoral, resulting in lethal outcomes.
The short story was earlier adapted for film by director Stuart Gordon in the 1985 cult horror comedy Re-Animator, featuring Jeffrey Combs as Herbert West. Combs reprised his role in 1990’s Bride of Re-Animator and again in 2003’s Beyond Re-Animator.
About Gary Collinson: Gary Collinson is a producer and writer specializing in film, TV, and digital content. He is the founder of the pop culture website Flickering Myth and produced the gothic horror feature film 'The Baby in the Basket' as well as the upcoming suspense thriller 'Death Among the Pines'.
