As it prepares for release following its premiere at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, a trailer, poster, and images for director R.T. Thorne’s dystopian thriller 40 Acres have been released online.
The movie centers on former soldier Hailey, her partner Galen, and their children, who strive to survive on a secluded farm after society has been devastated by plagues and warfare. Their way of life is disrupted when one of the teenagers, seeking connection with others, encounters a young woman who may endanger their family.
The cast features Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Greyeyes, Kataem O’Connor, Milcania Diaz-Rojas, Haile Amare, and Jaeda LeBlanc. Take a look at the trailer below...
Following a series of devastating plagues and wars, the Freemans have been able to survive — and even prosper — on a remote farm, provided they fend off intermittent raiding parties. Former soldier Hailey (Danielle Deadwyler) and her partner Galen (Michael Greyeyes) escaped the collapse with their children, training them in combat (and, indeed, to kill). However, now that Hailey’s eldest son Emanuel (Kataem O’Connor) is a young adult, his encounter with a young woman (Milcania Diaz-Rojas) in the woods beyond the fence raises the potential for serious danger to the entire family.
40 Acres will be released in theaters on July 2nd.
