NYC Weekend Watch: The Heroic Trio, Mikio Naruse, John Ford, and More

      Museum of the Moving Image: Johnnie To’s The Heroic Trio and To & Ching Siu-tung’s Executioners are featured in See It Big: Stunts!; John Waters’ Serial Mom is scheduled for screenings on Friday and Sunday; and Amir Azizi’s Two Dogs will be shown on Saturday.

      Japan Society: A major retrospective of Mikio Naruse has commenced, showcasing several imported 35mm prints.

      Roxy Cinema: Heat is set to screen on Friday; John Ford’s The Grapes of Wrath will be shown on 35mm this Saturday, alongside King Vidor’s Stella Dallas; Cinderella will be screened for free on Sunday, along with a showing of All About My Mother.

      Film Forum: A restoration of René Clément’s Forbidden Games begins its run (check out our trailer premiere); a new 35mm print of 8½ and Mort Rifkin’s favorite A Man and a Woman are ongoing; The Incredibles will be screened Sunday morning.

      BAM: Haydn Keenan’s Going Down, now newly restored, is set to begin its run.

      IFC Center: Withnail and I is playing daily; From Beyond, Dr. Caligari, and Mommie Dearest are showing late.

      Nitehawk Cinema: News from Home and Hairspray will be screened on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

      Museum of Modern Art: A retrospective of Sarah Maldoror and The Lady at 100 continues.

      Anthology Film Archives: Essential Cinema features Citizen Kane on 35mm.

      Metrograph: Caché, Where the Wild Things Are, Tomorrowland, and Buffalo ’66 are showing on 35mm, while Chantal Akerman’s From the East is being screened on 16mm; programs featuring Tyler Mitchell and Louise Giovanelli are starting, and Guided By Animals, The Time That Remains, Scenes from the End of History, and a Syd Mead series are ongoing.
