Is Osgood Perkins the upcoming director for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
Osgood Perkins is experiencing success with his recent original horror films like Longlegs and The Monkey, but could he be contemplating a franchise?
According to The Insneider, Perkins is considering a fresh interpretation of the legendary Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, infusing his unique mix of horror, humor, and gore into one of the most iconic figures in the genre.
There have been numerous discussions regarding a new film centered on Leatherface, with Strange Darling director J.T. Molner, IT producer Roy Lee, and actor Glen Powell reportedly working on their own adaptation. With the rights returned to the original owners, Exurbia Films, and no recent updates, all seemed lost. Now, Perkins may be the one to revive the thrills associated with this beloved IP.
Although no agreement has been finalized, the report suggests that Perkins is encouraging Neon to pursue this fresh vision of Texas Chainsaw. The filmmaker has a packed schedule, so it might take a while before this comes to fruition.
The 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre led to three sequels in 1986, 1990, and 1995, followed by a reboot in 2003. This was succeeded by a prequel in 2006, alongside additional installments and legacy sequels in 2013, 2017, and 2022.
