Carey Mulligan is in discussions for Greta Gerwig's Narnia project.
Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is poised to include Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Gerwig's new Narnia films, produced in collaboration with Netflix, will take a different approach than the earlier movies, starting this adaptation in chronological order rather than following the order of the novel releases. Gerwig is set to direct The Magician’s Nephew, which is the sixth book in the Narnia series, serving as an introduction that illustrates the events leading up to The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and how Narnia became the land depicted in that story.
The Magician’s Nephew centers on “two children who inadvertently release the evil White Witch into early 20th century London due to their uncle’s magical experiments.” Mulligan is cast as “the very ill mother of Digory, one of the children involved in the adventure.”
Gerwig will be both the writer and director of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. Production is set to start next year, with plans for an exclusive two-week IMAX global release during Thanksgiving 2026 before it becomes available for streaming on Netflix.
