Bandai Namco Entertainment's fantasy game Elden Ring is making its way to cinemas, as the publisher has announced a partnership with A24 and filmmaker Alex Garland (Civil War) for a live-action adaptation of the beloved video game.
The film will be based on a mythology and narrative created by George R.R. Martin, known for Game of Thrones, who will also be involved as a producer. The game is set in the dark fantasy world of the Lands Between and follows the player on a journey to restore the Elden Ring.
Released in 2022, Elden Ring was both a critical and commercial success, selling over 30 million copies. A spinoff titled Elden Ring Nightreign is set to launch on May 30th.
Garland will take on the roles of both writer and director for the Elden Ring movie, marking a reunion with A24, the studio behind his works Ex Machina, Men, Civil War, and the recently released Warfare. His earlier directorial film, Annihilation, was distributed by Paramount.
