Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning performed strongly at the box office.

The global box office experienced a much-needed boost as Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning drove cinema attendance to record levels during the holiday weekend.

Disney's latest live-action version of its animated classics erased the disappointment left by Snow White, as Lilo & Stitch topped the charts with a worldwide total of $341 million, which includes $145.5 million from the domestic three-day weekend (the four-day holiday weekend projections indicate a record Memorial Day weekend total of $183 million). This achievement marks the third-highest opening for Disney's remakes, following The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, and it also exceeds the original animated Lilo & Stitch's box office earnings of $273.1 million from 2002.

In second place was Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, with Tom Cruise’s eighth and possibly final performance as Ethan Hunt opening to $190 million globally. This includes an impressive domestic three-day weekend figure of $63 million, and an estimated total of $77 million by the holiday Monday. The strong debut is likely a relief for the studio, especially after the lukewarm reception of the last film, coupled with the fact that The Final Reckoning has a reported budget of $400 million, making it one of the most costly films ever produced.

Meanwhile, Final Destination Bloodlines brought in $42.6 million, raising its global total to $187.1 million and making it the highest-grossing film in the horror series. Marvel’s Thunderbolts added $14.7 million, surpassing the $350 million mark to claim fourth place, and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners followed in fifth with $10.7 million.
