Lilo & Stitch rides the wave to $600 million, Mission maintains its position, and Karate Kid takes a hit at the box office.
Twenty-three years ago, Tom Cruise faced off against Lilo & Stitch at the box office when Minority Report was released alongside the original animated film in 2002. Fast forward nearly a quarter of a century, and these two unexpected challengers are again leading the charts with remarkable performances.
Disney's live-action hit enjoyed a successful second weekend, bringing in $63 million at the domestic box office, which pushes its total to an impressive $280 million within just ten days. When added to the $330 million garnered internationally, the film has achieved a global total of $611 million. The highest earning film so far in 2025 is A Minecraft Movie, which currently stands at $947.1 million worldwide, but Lilo & Stitch is expected to surpass that figure easily before the arrival of Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Paramount and Skydance's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning also maintained a solid performance, generating $27.2 million in its second weekend at the domestic box office for a cumulative total of $122 million. Internationally, the film brought in $76.1 million, marking a notable 33% decline. The action blockbuster directed by Christopher McQuarrie has thus far accumulated $353.8 million globally.
In contrast, Karate Kid: Legends struggled at the box office. Although not down for the count, thanks to a production budget of only $45 million, it faced a setback with just $21 million earned in North America. Internationally, where Legends had an earlier release, it added another $12 million to its tally, bringing the worldwide total to $47 million. Sony Pictures is hopeful that the film, featuring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, will match the legs of the last installment in the franchise, 2010's Karate Kid, which earned $359 million worldwide.
Meanwhile, the horror genre continues to attract audiences among the blockbusters, with Danny and Michael Philippou's Brink Her Back debuting in the U.S. Top 5 with $7.1 million. Additionally, Warner/New Line's Final Destination: Bloodlines has reached a global total of $229 million, and Sinners has surpassed the $350 million mark.
