Mike Flanagan's Carrie TV series has officially revealed its cast, featuring Summer H. Howell in the lead role.
Mike Flanagan's forthcoming series, Carrie, which is his next adaptation of Stephen King's iconic works, has revealed its cast. Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky) has been officially cast as the lead character, Carrie White, for Amazon MGM.
Joining Howell, the cast of Carrie includes Samantha Sloyan (The Fall of the House of Usher) as Carrie’s mother, Margaret White; Alison Thornton (Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce) as Chris Hargensen; Thalia Dudek (The Running Man) as Emaline; Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as Sue Snell; Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Miss Desjardin; Josie Totah (The Buccaneers) as Tina; Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) as Billy; Joel Oulette (Sullivan’s Crossing) as Tommy; and Matthew Lillard (Life of Chuck) as Principal Grayle.
Flanagan’s new interpretation of Carrie will be “a reimagining of the tale of misfit high school student Carrie White, who has lived much of her life in isolation with her overbearing mother. Following her father's unexpected death, Carrie faces the trials of high school life, a bullying incident, and the awakening of her mysterious telekinetic abilities.”
Carrie is among King’s most renowned and acclaimed novels, having previously been adapted in 1976 and 2013, with Sissy Spacek and Chloë Grace Moretz portraying Carrie in the respective films.
Flanagan is not only writing the series but will also direct episodes and serve as an executive producer. This will not be his first adaptation of a King story, as he has publicly stated that King is his favorite author and has already adapted Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, the latter set to be released on June 6th [read our review here]. He is also in the early stages of developing King’s The Dark Tower series, though updates on that project have been sparse for some time. Meanwhile, his next film will offer a fresh take on The Exorcist.
