Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are working on a Phasmophobia movie.
The highly popular online ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia will be adapted into a film by the horror production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. The announcement came during Blumhouse’s inaugural The Business of Fear event in Hollywood, as reported by Deadline.
Launched in 2020 by the British independent studio Kinetic Games, Phasmophobia allows players to investigate various locations to identify the type of spirit haunting each site, either as solo players or in multiplayer mode. The game features poltergeists inspired by Irish, Christian, and Japanese cultures, with distinct strengths, weaknesses, and paranormal characteristics.
Blumhouse aims to leverage the game’s impressive sales of 23 million copies worldwide to replicate the success of their previous video game adaptation, Five Nights at Freddy’s, which earned $290 million globally and is set to receive a sequel this Christmas.
The film will be produced by Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster in collaboration with Kinetic Games Limited.
