Watch: Wes Anderson Stars in His Own New Montblanc Short Film, Filmed by Darius Khondji.
With the release of Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme, he has once again collaborated with Montblanc on a new short film, following their partnership from last year, which was filmed by Linus Sandgren. This time, with cinematography by Darius Khondji, who previously collaborated with Anderson on the 2013 Prada short Castello Cavalcanti, the film features Anderson directing alongside Rupert Friend, Michael Cera, Waris Ahluwalia, and Esther McGregor.
The official description of the short, co-directed by Roman Coppola, states: “We are thrilled to present 'Let’s Write,' the next chapter in our ongoing partnership with visionary filmmaker Wes Anderson. This new campaign, featuring a short film by Anderson, revisits the Montblanc Observatory High-Mountain Library through a literal, metaphorical, and poetic journey that celebrates writing, creativity, and Montblanc’s unique storytelling ethos.”
In our Cannes review of The Phoenician Scheme, Luke Hicks remarked, “Experiencing The Phoenician Scheme feels akin to strolling through an exquisitely curated home design or vintage shop, marveling at all the extraordinary items you’ve never encountered or could hardly conceive. It’s enjoyable, intriguing, somewhat superficial, occasionally inspiring in specific crafts, and tends to become a tedious experience after examining everything for a time. If you’re not purchasing anything, the browsing itself isn’t the sort of experience you carry home. Or if you do take away something intangible, it’s the abstract memory of quirky patterns, wallpapers, weapons, costumes, trinkets, and furniture—ideas laid out for your next room renovation or dishware collection.”
