Splitsville Trailer: Michael Angelo Covino, Kyle Marvin, Dakota Johnson, and Adria Arjona Experience Relationship Turmoil
Six years after their successful debut feature, The Climb, Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin are back with Splitsville, a rom-com that is both surprising and hilarious, accompanied by notable stars. Following its premiere at Cannes, the film is set to hit theaters on August 22 through NEON, along with the release of the first trailer featuring Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona.
The synopsis reads: “When Ashley (Arjona) requests a divorce, the good-natured Carey (Marvin) turns to his friends, Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. He is taken aback to learn that their secret to happiness lies in an open marriage—until Carey crosses a boundary, throwing all their relationships into disarray.”
In his review, Luke Hicks remarked, “Marvin and Covino have certainly forged a unique direction in the early stages of their careers. Individually, Covino has embraced acting a bit more than Marvin, landing roles in the Oscar-nominated News of the World and the ensemble film Riff Raff, while Marvin secured a notable supporting role in the Apple TV+ miniseries WeCrashed and kicked off his feature directing journey with 80 for Brady. Together, they craft sharp, quick-witted buddy comedies that highlight their distinct comedic chemistry and timing. Their relatable, grounded approach to reckless, absurd humor suggests the emergence of a new style that could gain traction—a fresh comedic voice reminiscent of the rise of Wes Anderson's whimsically dry indie aesthetic in the '90s.”
