The Dragon's Lair movie featuring Ryan Reynolds has found its director in James Bobin.
It has been over five years since it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds would collaborate with Netflix to create a live-action version of the classic 80s video game Dragon’s Lair, and the project has now made significant progress with the announcement from THR that James Bobin has been hired to direct the film.
Originally launched in arcades in 1983, Dragon’s Lair was groundbreaking for its use of LaserDisc technology, allowing it to feature high-quality animation from renowned animator Don Bluth. Players take on the role of Dirk the Daring, a courageous knight on a mission to save a beautiful princess from an evil dragon.
Bobin is widely recognized for directing the 2011 film The Muppets and its 2014 follow-up, Muppets Most Wanted. He has also directed Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass and Paramount's Dora and the Lost City of Gold, in addition to episodes of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Although Ryan Reynolds is producing the film adaptation, it’s known that he is not attached to play the lead role of Dirk the Daring, nor is he expected to star at this time. However, with a director now in place, there is hope for progress on the project.
