Limited Run Games is releasing a physical edition of DOOM for the Super Nintendo.
Limited Run Games has revealed that pre-orders for the highly anticipated physical cartridge of DOOM for the Super Nintendo will commence on Friday, July 11, in both Standard and Collector's Editions. This exciting update for retro gaming enthusiasts is further complemented by the launch of pre-orders for the SNES-compatible Rumble Tech Controller on the same date.
This version of DOOM is more than just a re-release of the original; it is an enhanced edition that includes numerous improvements that will delight both modern gamers and retro fans.
Led by Randal Linden, one of the original developers from the iconic 1995 shooter, the new DOOM will feature a completely customized board that significantly boosts performance. Players can experience all four episodes of DOOM, including the 'Thy Flesh Consumed' chapter, which was first added in the updated PC version in 1995. Additionally, levels that were omitted from the original release due to technical constraints will also be included.
The Standard edition will contain a Metallic Gunmetal Colored SNES Cartridge, an Instruction Booklet, a 12" x 16" Poster, and a Retro SNES Box. In contrast, the exclusive Collector's Edition SNES cartridge will come in a Metallic-ink Gunmetal color with Blood Splatter print and Metal Plate Label, a Premium Embossed Foil Box, the Instruction Booklet, a 12" x 16" Poster, and an Individually Numbered Certificate of Authenticity. It is also limited to 666 copies.
Along with enhanced performance and restored levels, DOOM will now support circle-strafe, monster re-spawning on Nightmare difficulty, the appearance of the notorious translucent Spectre monster, full-motion video logos, and more.
Gamers will also have the opportunity to pre-order the SNES-compatible Rumble Tech Controller, an open-source gamepad akin to the original SNES controller. This new controller will feature robust dual vibration support, perfect for the rumble feature present in the new DOOM.
Both the Standard and Collector's Editions of DOOM, along with the new controller, will be available for pre-order starting July 11.
