Audiences will soon return to Arrakis, as Denis Villeneuve has commenced production on the highly awaited next installment of his Dune saga. The adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah will not follow the book's title and will instead continue the naming convention of its predecessor, being called Dune: Part Three.

The film’s Instagram account announced the beginning of filming with a photo of Arrakis' vast desert, captioned "'…on a journey into that land where we walk without footprints.' Production has commenced on the next film in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy."

Dune: Part Three will feature Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya reprising their roles as Paul Muad’Dib Atreides and Chani. Dune Messiah takes place over a decade into Paul’s reign over the Imperium, following a holy war that ravaged the galaxy and solidified his power, but he must still navigate various plots from adversaries aiming to dethrone him and restore the previous order.

Joining Chalamet and Zendaya from earlier films will be Jason Momoa and Florence Pugh, along with Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke in the cast. Although not officially confirmed, there are reports that Robert Pattinson will portray the film's antagonist, Scytale.

Dune: Part Three will feature scenes shot in IMAX, though it will not be entirely filmed in that format, unlike Christopher Nolan’s current project, The Odyssey.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026.
