Netflix reveals a live-action series based on Solo Leveling.
Netflix is adapting Solo Leveling into a live-action series, with production now in progress on this highly popular Korean intellectual property. According to the official press release, Byeon Woo-seok (from 20th Century Girl) is set to portray the lead character, Sung Jin-woo, “an E-rank Hunter—the lowest level—who acquires remarkable powers following a near-fatal incident. As he levels up, he becomes an unexpected beacon of hope for humanity, fighting against the monstrous threats that emerge from the mysterious Gates.”
Originally a fantasy web novel by Chugong published in 2016, Solo Leveling transitioned into a webtoon format, garnering over 14.3 billion views on the KakaoPage platform. It has also inspired a critically acclaimed anime and a successful video game, solidifying its status as a global phenomenon.
The live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling aims to deliver “vivid characters, dynamic action sequences, and thrilling quests, brought to life by a top-tier global VFX team." The series will also take viewers into fantastical dungeons and introduce uniquely powerful monsters, setting a new benchmark for live-action adaptations.
