The revival of Scrubs has received a series order, with Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke rejoining Zach Braff for the reunion.

      Late last year, it was announced that a revival of Scrubs was in the initial stages of development, with Zach Braff agreeing to return as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian. Now, it's been confirmed that the project is officially progressing, receiving a straight-to-series order from ABC.

      The new season, set to debut in the 2025-26 TV season, will feature Braff alongside returning Scrubs co-stars Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, who will reprise their roles as Turk and Elliot, respectively. According to Variety, more original cast members are also anticipated to return.

      The synopsis for the revival states: “JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) come together in scrubs once again after a long time—medicine has evolved, interns have changed, but their friendship has remained strong. New and familiar characters navigate the challenges of Sacred Heart with humor, emotion, and unexpected twists.”

      Bill Lawrence, the original series creator, expressed, “Scrubs means a great deal to me. I’m thrilled for the opportunity to reunite the team,” and he will serve as executive producer for the revival along with Braff, Faison, and Chalke. Scrubs veterans Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra are set to lead the revival as showrunners.

      Scrubs first premiered on NBC in 2001, focusing on the lives of the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital—particularly Braff’s character J.D., who began the series as a medical intern and narrated much of the show's storylines. It transitioned to ABC for its eighth season in 2008, which was planned as the series finale, but returned for a reimagined ninth season called Scrubs: Med School before concluding in 2010.
