Netflix has unveiled the initial trailer for Train Dreams, the adaptation by director Clint Bentley (Sing Sing) of Denis Johnson’s 2011 novella.
Joel Edgerton plays Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker navigating the rapidly changing landscape of early 20th century America. The cast also features Felicity Jones, Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, Paul Schneider, Kerry Condon, and William H. Macy, with narration by Will Patton. Train Dreams offers an evocative portrayal of Robert Grainier (Golden Globe-nominee Joel Edgerton), whose life unfolds amid extraordinary transformations in early 20th century America. Orphaned in childhood, Robert matures within the majestic forests of the Pacific Northwest, contributing to the nation's railroad expansion alongside men as memorable as the scenery surrounding them. Following a heartfelt courtship, he weds Gladys (Academy Award-nominee Felicity Jones), and they create a home together, though his job frequently distances him from her and their young daughter. When his life takes an unforeseen turn, Robert discovers beauty, brutality, and a new significance within the forests and trees he has cut down.
An homage to a disappearing lifestyle, a continuously changing world, and the remarkable potential found within even the simplest lives, Train Dreams encapsulates an era and location that have long since vanished, along with the individuals who forged a path toward a future they could only imagine.
