MUBI has released a trailer for The History of Sound, a historical romantic drama directed by Oliver Hermanus, inspired by Ben Shattuck’s short story of the same title.
The narrative centers on Lionel (played by Paul Mescal), a music student who forges a connection with David (played by Josh O’Connor) through their shared passion for folk music. After several years, post-WWI, they meet again and venture into Maine's backwoods to gather traditional songs as a romance blossoms. Watch the trailer below…
In 1917, Lionel, a gifted young music student, encounters David at the Boston Conservatory, where they connect over their mutual appreciation for folk music. Some years later, Lionel gets a letter from David, prompting a spontaneous trip through Maine to collect traditional songs. This unforeseen reunion, along with their burgeoning romance and the music they gather and preserve, will significantly influence Lionel’s life in ways he has yet to realize. The History of Sound will be in theaters starting September 12th.
