Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th makes a comeback in the Sweet Revenge trailer.

      While it may not be a feature-length film, the iconic masked killer Jason Voorhees is making his return to the screen after a hiatus of over fifteen years as part of the new Jason Universe relaunch of the Friday the 13th franchise in the short film Sweet Revenge. The first trailer for the film was released online today following its unveiling at San Diego Comic-Con.

      After navigating the complicated rights issues that have kept the beloved horror franchise dormant (or confined beneath the surface) since the Platinum Dunes reboot, Horror Inc’s new 'Jason Universe' is working on its A24 prequel series Crystal Lake. At the same time, it celebrates the franchise's 45th anniversary with the "bloody short-form vignette" Sweet Revenge, directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn).

      “I am incredibly thankful that the team at Horror, Inc. recognized the potential in Sweet Revenge and wanted it to be part of Jason Voorhees' story,” stated director Nelson, who also revealed the trailer for his remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night during the convention. “It’s hard to believe that 30 years ago I was sneaking to watch these films on VHS when no one was around. Having the chance to write and direct one of these stories feels surreal – especially with an incredible team led by Chad Villella and Brianna Lee Johnson helping me bring it to fruition! The vignette not only offers a fresh perspective on the beloved IP, but it also serves as a comforting, gory embrace, reminding us why we fell in love with these movies. A lot of gruesome fun is in store for you!”
