Emulsion Episode 13 – Dave Kehr Discusses Restoration, Preservation, and MoMA's Silent Film Week

      Few individuals have impacted cinema and cinephilia in the past 50 years as much as Dave Kehr. He holds this distinction not only as a prominent critical voice, with his work maintaining relevance decades later––evident in the popular Not Dave Kehr Letterboxd account, which symbolizes his lasting influence. As a film curator at the Museum of Modern Art, Kehr has strengthened one of the world's leading cinema cultures through year-round programming that features a mix of classic films and obscure discoveries.

      As the third edition of Silent Movie Week kicks off at MoMA on July 30, I had the opportunity to speak with Dave about the lineup, significant advancements in digital restoration, and the process of assembling a series like this. Additionally, I learned that one of my assumptions was indeed incorrect. Also included: his choice for the best film that has premiered in recent years, which may surprise some, but not me.
