Jay Kelly Trailer: Noah Baumbach Pairs George Clooney and Adam Sandler for a European Journey

Noah Baumbach is teaming up with Netflix again after his ambitious but flawed film, White Noise, and is turning his focus inward. The film stars George Clooney as the iconic movie star Jay Kelly and Adam Sandler as his manager. Together, they ponder their lives and careers during a trip across Europe. The screenplay, co-written by Baumbach and Emily Mortimer, features a cast that includes Billy Crudup, Laura Dern, Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Emily Mortimer, Patrick Wilson, Nicôle Lecky, Thaddea Graham, Jim Broadbent, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher, Lenny Henry, Josh Hamilton, and Greta Gerwig. With its world premiere set for Venice, a theatrical debut on November 14, and a release on Netflix on December 5, the first trailer has just been unveiled.

The synopsis reads: “JAY KELLY, the latest film from Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach, follows renowned actor Jay Kelly (played by George Clooney) and his loyal manager Ron (played by Adam Sandler) as they embark on a whirlwind and unexpectedly deep journey through Europe. Along the way, they must confront their past choices, their relationships with loved ones, and the legacies they will leave behind.”

Baumbach shared with Vanity Fair, “Movie stars serve as our avatars. They are individuals in whom we invest, onto whom we project our feelings, and through whom we experience life.” Furthermore, he noted, “A movie star needed to embody the role of a movie star. This concept was fundamental to the project: What if a movie star was essentially portraying one, reflecting both our vulnerabilities and our inquiries about life? What would that entail? I’m not sure I had all the answers, but it certainly sounded intriguing.”
