Sony debuts the initial trailer for The Choral featuring Ralph Fiennes.
In anticipation of its world premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival, Sony Pictures Classics has released the first trailer for The Choral, the newest film from director Nicholas Hytner and screenwriter Alan Bennett, known for their previous successes The Madness of King George, The History Boys, and The Lady in The Van.
The film is set in England in 1916 during the peak of the Great War and features a cast including Ralph Fiennes, Roger Allam, Amara Okereke, Simon Russell Beale, and Thomas Howes. It follows a local choral society as they seek to recruit new members for a performance of Edward Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius. Watch the trailer below...
As war continues on the Western Front in 1916, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire, has lost many of its men to military service. Undeterred, the society's ambitious committee decides to enlist local young males to bolster their ranks. They also need to find a new chorus master, and despite their doubts about his background, their best option appears to be Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) – driven, uncompromising, and recently back from a career in Germany. As conscription papers begin to arrive, the entire community realizes that the best way to address the turmoil disrupting their lives is to come together through music.
The Choral is scheduled to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.
