A reboot of the T.J. Hooker movie is in the works at Netflix.
Netflix is working on a feature film reboot of T.J. Hooker, the iconic 80s police procedural series that featured Star Trek star William Shatner as a police sergeant and Vietnam War veteran who returns to active duty to combat crime after his partner's death.
According to Variety, Netflix has enlisted screenwriters Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel, known for Yes Man, to write the script for the film, which is intended to have “a more meta and humorous tone than the original series.”
T.J. Hooker first aired on ABC in 1982 and ran for four seasons before its cancellation; it was later picked up by CBS for a final season, concluding in 1986. The cast included Adrian Zmed, Richard Herd, James Darren, and Heather Locklear alongside Shatner.
The T.J. Hooker movie is being produced by 2.0 Entertainment's Sophie Cassidy and Matt Crespy, Prime Universe Films' Adrian Askarieh, and Alex Westmore of Vali Vista Films. Reports suggest that the producers have been in discussions with William Shatner, with the expectation that he will have some involvement in the reboot.
