Dexter: Original Sin has been canceled even though it was previously renewed for a second season.
Bad news for Dexter enthusiasts eager to delve deeper into the early years of their favorite serial killer, as Variety has announced that the previously confirmed second season of Dexter: Original Sin has been canceled, concluding the prequel series after only one season.
Debuting in December 2024, Original Sin featured Michael C. Hall as the narrator, providing inner monologues for the prequel set in 1991, with Patrick Gibson in the role of young Dexter Morgan and Christian Slater portraying his father, Harry. The series was well-received on Paramount+, prompting a season two renewal announcement in March.
According to Variety, the second season has been on hold for the last few months, and the choice not to proceed may have been affected by the recent merger between Skydance and Paramount, which has prompted a reassessment of the entire production lineup.
Reportedly, new head of Paramount Television Studios, Matt Thunell, and his team prefer to concentrate on the main Dexter storyline with the current series, Dexter: Resurrection, in which Hall fully resumes his role as the lead character. Consequently, there are plans to establish a writers' room for a possible second season of Resurrection, which debuted in July and is set to conclude on September 5th. However, an official renewal has not yet been confirmed.
