Nicolas Cage is in discussions for a role in season 5 of True Detective.

      HBO's True Detective appears to have identified its leading star for the upcoming fifth season, with Deadline reporting that Nicolas Cage is in discussions to headline the cast of the next chapter in the Emmy-winning anthology series.

      The yet-to-be-named fifth season will bring back True Detective: Night Country writer and showrunner Issa Lopez, and it is set to unfold in Jamaica Bay, New York. Cage is reportedly having conversations about the lead role of New York detective Henry Logan and is currently in negotiations with HBO.

      If Cage finalizes a deal, he will join the ranks of Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Colin Farrell, Mahershala Ali, and Jodie Foster, who have all led the series. The show was originally created by Nic Pizzolatto, who was the showrunner for the first three seasons before Lopez took over for Night Country. This would also signify a fast return to television for Cage, who is expected to appear soon in Sony’s live-action Marvel series Spider-Noir, set to premiere on MGM+ in 2026.

      Filming for the fifth season of True Detective is anticipated to commence in the next few months, with a planned release in 2027. Official casting announcements are expected soon.
